Ex-TPA boss pays 5m/- fine, escapes three years behind bars

Dar es Salaam’s Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court today sentenced former Director General of Tanzania Port Authority, Ephraim Mgawe, to three years in jail or pay 5m/- fine for abuse of office.

The charge related to a contract of expanding Dar es Salaam Port berths number 13 and 14 which was intended to go to a Chinese firm—China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCCL). The project was later cancelled.

The same court, however, set free the then TPA Deputy DG Hamadi Koshuma, for lack of evidence.
