Zanzibar to have new golf course

PLANS to construct a new golf course in Zanzibar moved to a crucial step following the signing of the agreement between project developer and the contractor named Ernie Els.

The golf course is among the more than USD 1.6 billion ‘Zanzibar Amber Resort’ projects at Matemwe coastal village, North of Unguja.

Other projects include construction of 1,900 luxury villas, 3,500 apartments and residential complexes.

Ernie Els said after the signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Director of Amber Resort Project, Saleh Said: “As a course designer, I feel so fortunate to be working with Zanzibar Amber Resort.” “…And to be awarded with some of the most beautiful settings in the Indian Ocean, is really a wonderful opportunity for us.

Our clients and I share the same vision and I am confident our work here will set a new standard, leaving a lasting legacy for Zanzibar and the regions golfers as a whole,” Mr Els said.

Saleh said further “As we began discussions with Ernie, we realized that we share the same vision, to build a distinctive and superior golfing destination that will further enhance the golfing experience of both professional and leisure golfers.”
