“We are happy to announce that there was success during the specialised knee replacement surgery camp along with screening of patients with spine, hip and knee problems which was held between 14th and 15th this month at RMC.

It was in collaboration with HCG Hospital India and Lions Club of Dar es Salaam (Host), a new milestone of performing two knee replacement surgeries at a single sitting on the same patient,” said Dr Kanabar.

He said the operation was conducted by knee replacement super specialist orthopedic surgeon, Dr Yuvraj Lakum from HCG Hospital in Ahmedabad, India and was supported by local team of RMC and paramedical staff, including Dr Phuljit Patowary, an orthopaedician.

Also in the team were anaesthetists, Dr Kim Karenga, Dr Gunjan Gupta and Dr Mustafa Myeya, OT technicians, Mr Mandeep Singh, Gurjeet Singh, nurses and ICU physicians, Dr Sudakshina Ghosh, Dr Khan Hidayath and Dr Fatma Chandoo.

Dr Kanabar said left knee joint replacement was done in 50 minutes and the right one was accomplished in 46 minutes. He said both patients have recovered very well and will be discharged shortly.

“We will be conducting more knee replacement surgeries in the month of January 2017,” said Dr Kanabar.
